Sam and I had the best time this morning. The sun was shining and it was HOT, the perfect day for trying out our awesome new bike seat. Away we went…
Ever since I first saw this post on A Cup of Jo (like, a year ago!) I’ve been looking forward to this day :) Now that Sam is big enough and summery weather is finally here, Kevin ordered us the bike seat and it arrived Tuesday evening. We still didn’t have a helmet for Sam, so he and I went out right away on Wednesday morning and bought this awesome airplane covered one. He loves it! Our first little trial run on the bike was yesterday evening and Sam was delighted. He said weeeeeeee! the whole time and laughed and kept calling out go! go! So with one successful test ride under our belt we set off this morning for the beautiful big park up the road.
Rinville Park is just 2 miles or so up the road, but we’ve never walked it so haven’t been nearly as often as we’d like to. A bike changes that completely. It took just 10 minutes to get there, and the slight incline will do wonders for my legs :)
The children’s playground is inside an old walled garden. It’s beyond beautiful.
We had a great old play, then set off across the fields to follow the sound of a lawnmower in the distance. Sam was insistent :)
What a view! It really is magical there. The lawnmower was coming from the golf course which we reached by biking through the woods and past the shore. Idyllic.
My view in the woods :)
We were only gone for 2 hours, but with weather like this it felt like a little getaway. Sam had a brilliant time. Any trip to the park is a-ok with him, but getting to ride on Mommy’s bike to get there is, it seems, the icing on the cake. We even got up close and personal with a cow on the way home.
All in all it was a terrific morning, and we’ll be venturing out a lot this summer. I can’t say enough about the seat. I’m no expert on a bike. The bike I’m riding was a birthday present from Kevin this year, and the first bike I’ve owned since I was 12! I thought it might take me a little while to get used to riding with Sam on board, but it really is a cinch. The weight doesn’t make it any harder, just a good workout, and it doesn’t through my off balance at all. Having him right in front of me where I can see him gives me peace of mind, and it means we can chat away as we’re on the move. A sweet bonus since his running commentary is pretty hilarious. “Man. Car. Cow. Moon. Plane. Cow.” :)
